The Widdowson family of Smalley

Though in Smalley for a relatively short time, this family were very much part of the village.

The Rev Charles Kerry writes:
"The old home of the Widdowsons of Smalley stood a few hundred yards south, (a very little SE) of Stainsby House. The site of the farmstead was planted with trees (Widdowsons Plantation) and the land subsequently added to my father's farm. The house was pulled down about 1845 - I suppose on the death of Old William, the last of the family."

The authors of 'Footsteps through Smalley' record that the Widdowsons came from Denby in 1698 but I have not been able to verify this.
