home page 18 November 2007 Another update The Woolley and Ottewell families have been updated, to include Blakeys, Fishers, and yet another Cresswell line. 28 October 2007 I am currently transcribing the pre-1750 Parish Registers, so I am gradually confirming some IGI entries and those of the Rev Charles Kerry. The Kerry family of Smalley has just been uploaded, though it is not yet complete. Others will follow later 18 October 2007 Else family updated There is a large Woollands family connected here but I have not been able to connect them with the Woolland line of Horsley. Any takers? 27 August 2007 Cresswell update This update links the Cresswells of Smalley to the Kyte family. 26 August 2007 Kyte family Updated with a Cresswell connection 10 August 2007 The Woodpastures of Smalley This is a description of the ancient woodlands around Smalley, by the Rev Charles Kerry 2 August 2007 Tracing Carringtons from Smalley Having established the earliest Carrington in Smalley in 1746, I have looked for the origins of William in Horsley and Heanor, with only mixed success. The results are far from conclusive but I hope make interesting reading! 12 July 2007 The Cresswell families puzzle I have finally admitted defeat and given up trying to connect the Smalley and Denby Cresswell lines. So here they are for your information, curiosity, or even opposing views! 12 July 2007 I have recently updated some of the family pages, with notes from the 1801 census, made by Charles Kerry; these are some of them. Woolley family of Smalley Kerry family of Smalley Birch family of Smalley 2 July 2007 Flint family of West Hallam More updates; this family has connections with the Carringtons & Cresswells but I still can't link them to the Smalley Flints! 2 July 2007 The Else family of Denby and Smalley The Else family has connections with the 'Banker' Martin line, amongst others. The family seems to have originated in Denby but had links with Smalley for a while though ended up further afield. 2 July 2007 The Carrington families from Smalley Another update! 27 April 2007 The Rogers family of Horsley and Smalley Revised & updated 21 April 2007 The Carrington families from Smalley Updated version, including the link to Hill Top, Horsley 21 April 2007 The Foulks of Smalley & Horsley New contributions keep appearing for this family; hence the delay in getting it online. However, look out for updates over the next few weeks, as I am still going through the Horsley registers. We are still trying to connect Richard Foulks, born about 1805 in Horsley, and his wife Mary Woodhouse, with this family. So all suggestions would be very welcome. 12 March 2007 Revised Martin line These are the Martins of Smalley, Mapperley, West Hallam & Stanley etc, based on CK's pedigree, but with our hopeful corrections. 10 March 2007 The first instalments of the Martin puzzle are now loaded! Thanks to help from fellow researchers Christine Grundy, Susan Salaun, Jack Hartley and Joy Hungerford, we have managed to sort out some of the Rev Kerry's faulty pathways; though the entire tree has yet to be connected - there are still dead ends! Revised 'Banker' Martin & Handley line This is our view of the possible connection between two Thomas Martins and the Handley family; though it doesn't solve the problem of the origins of the real 'Banker' Martin The Martin family later of Alfreton This was originally one of CK's misdirections; he had attached the Alfreton Martins to Thomas rather than Samuel Martin. If my calculations are correct, Betsy was the daughter Abraham Walker, schoolteacher of Smalley. 27 October 2006 Framework Knitters in Smalley 14 October 2006 Holbrook and Mee families An example of connected families with links to Smalley people. 12 October 2006 Hawksworth family of Dale Abbey & Ashbourne A couple of Roe/Kerry links here and a few interesting notes by CK 10 October 2006 Widdowson family of Smalley Not a long-lived Smalley family this time but of interest I hope, if only for the marriages of Martha Widdowson. 6 October 2006 Redgate family of Smalley An interesting family line as there is evidence that there were Redgates in Smalley in the mid 1600s. Some of the connections are supposition, so as always, they need careful verification. 1 October 2006 Martin Family and Woolley Family Updated 28 September 2006 The Birch family of Smalley Just a small family line this time, of interest for the Turton and Martin links; and not least of all for the relative endurance of Thomas Woodward! 27 September 2006 The Buxton family of Smalley This is not a very comprehensive line but it is made interesting by the added notes by Charles Kerry; once more, his rather lofty class-based views appear! 26 September 2006 The Martin family of Smalley, West Hallam & Mapperley (CK's version) This is an attempt to connect Thomas 'Banker' Martin with the Martins of Smalley, though not entirely successfully. I hope it will still be of interest to Martin researchers. 26 September 2006 The blacksmiths of Smalley 26 September 2006 Smalley village taverns 8 September 2006 The Martin family of Smalley (CK's version) This has been an interesting family to follow, not least because of the recurring first names that have been handed down through the family. The Kerry notes are numerous but not always easy to follow, added to which the Martins had a tendency to move back and forth, between Smalley, Stanley, Heanor and Mapperley. 1 September 2006 The Turton family of Smalley updated This is not just the Turton family of Smalley, as the Kerry pedigrees include the branches of Ripley, Horsley Woodhouse, and Heanor. I have updated with baptisms, marriages and census data, including some IGI entries which will of course need verifying, but I have resisted the temptation to travel too far afield. 27 August 2006 The Rogers family of Horsley and Smalley This proved a frustrating family to put together, not least because of the errors made by Charles Kerry. The original Horsley Rogers, or Rodgers, family were difficult to trace and only a handful of descendants moved to Smalley. Added to which, many of the Rogers line moved away from the area and were often hard to find. 23 August 2006 The Kyte families of Smalley and Morley 22 August 2006 - A change of URL for the site As this involved re-loading all the web pages, I took the opportunity to correct some errors that had crept into the Family History pages.
