Cresswell is a name that occurs continuously in Smalley families, so I have attempted to
to put together at least the Smalley branch of this extensive family. However, I have to
admit defeat; I now have four separate data bases that refuse to link up! I know there are other Cresswell researchers who are also trying to work out the connections, so I have decided to include all the information that I have accumulated, whether from Smalley or Denby, in the hope that they are of some use. I have had information from many helpful people with the same obsession, so it is not all my own work. I have included all the sources, even IGI LDS submissions, so that it can be seen where our ideas originate; as always, please do not view them as accurate sources, they are only a guide. Please feel free to take pot shots at the theories, or even better, contribute your own ideas. The Cresswell family of Smalley This is one of the two Cresswell families of Smalley, headed by Samuel 1765-1819 The other Cresswell family of Smalley This is the family line of John Cresswell, who was living in Smalley from about 1794. It is very possible that he is related to Samuel but I haven't found the connection yet. The Robert Cresswell families of Denby This line is almost entirely related to Denby, until Patrick arrived in Smalley about 1747 The family of George Cresswell This branch is the most recently researched; although George was born in Horsley, it is more than likely that the line originated in Denby, but who knows! |
